Buffalo

Often seen in Hluhluwe sharing mud holes with rhino, Buffalo are always an impressive sight up close. This extremely mean looking animal is often confused with Water Buffalo. This is incorrect, our buffalo are known either as Cape Buffalo or African Buffalo. Very different to the water buffalo found in Asia.

Kosi Cold Snap

 Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife (EKZNW) and the Wetland Authority report that following a sudden and unseasonal drop in temperature last week an estimated two thousand fish have died and been washed up on the banks of First Lake at Kosi Bay.

Poaching Incident

Working in close co-operation with members of the SAPS Organised Crime Unit, Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife (EKZNW) staff in the Imfolozi section of the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park (HIP) arrested two men following the shooting of two white rhinos in the Park on 23 August 2006.

Brindle Bass
Several large brindle bass, a specially protected species due to its low numbers, have taken up residence in the St. Lucia estuary mouth.
These fish have become a focus of angler and visitor attention, after one of these large fish died last year.

Amajigajiga-1

About 5/6 years ago the elephant population in the Hluhluwe/Imfolozi Park was not the friendliest group of elephants to be found. Young males were killing white rhino, and giving the female elephants a lot of stress, which in turn made the females pretty difficult animals as well.
